Welcome to Two Hour Photo

Thank you all for joining me here for the first-ever post! I'm so excited about this, and I hope you are too. This first post will be more of an introduction to what to expect from this moving forward. I hope you enjoy it, and if you do, feel free to share to get the word out or drop a comment.

Perspective

Perspective is where we will discuss the main topic of this blog or newsletter, whatever you'd like to call it. For this first "Episode," I think it is important to talk about why I even want to do a Substack newsletter.

Well, if you didn't know, I used to run a website called Two Hour Photo. I had artist interviews, a blog, photo books from the community, and more. It was great; however, it was pretty expensive to run. Also, it put pressure on me to update it frequently. If I missed a few weeks, I felt like I was letting everyone down, especially those who were kind enough to donate.

I think I can still put out information like editing guides, artist highlights, and other articles that the website offered here, and this is free. There is going to be a learning curve with this like there was with the website, but with enough Youtube tutorials, I think this could be great. I promise the second episode will be better. I'm going to put up the Fujifilm editing guide from the website that everyone seemed to love.

Contact Sheet

The "Contact Sheet" is where I will post some recent work and discuss why I took these certain photographs. For this episode, I will post two recent photos, so let's pretend that I said something artsy and cool for now. I'll go into depth on these and more next time, I promise.

Artist in Focus

Ok, so "Artist in Focus," is something that will change from episode to episode. Most of the time it will be me talking about why a photographer inspires me, but there will be times when this is a full-on interview. I want it to be a nice mix, and I also want to highlight some photo books and zines too.

For this episode, Lucy Lumen is really lucky, because she will also be the next "Artist in Focus" too. I feel bad putting her in here with this almost trial-run post. That is why she deserves two posts. While you wait for my second one, it's a good time to check out Lucy's substack. It's really good! Check it out HERE, after you finish this of course, please.

Two Hour Radio

This is my favorite section of the whole thing, Two Hour Radio! Each episode will have a song here for your listening pleasure. I'm also not opposed to you dropping some recommendations in the comment section for later episodes. There is already a Spotify playlist called Two Hour Radio that I had linked for the website. I always like this idea. Here’s an oldie but a goodie from The Whitest Boy Alive. It has a killer bass line.

Developing News

Developing News will be the final section of the newsletter. This is where I will put any upcoming news and stuff like that. If you have a zine coming out or something like that, let me know, I don't mind putting it here.
